This wondrous artifact was a huge mace encrusted with precious metals and of exquisite craftsmanship. The lineage of the Dwarven kings was inscribed in mystic runes upon its shaft from the very first king, Bantor Ironfist. It is a sacred object, revered by all Dwarven people.

In the ancient past, the Dwarf kingdom of Thorin maintained cordial relations with an Orc kingdom which history records as being named Perizzak. However, it was believed that an Orc spy stole the Mace of Kings, initiating what would come to be known as the Wars of Annihilation, which saw the destruction of Perizzak and the scattering of the Orcs across Xaria. The Mace, however, was never found. Without the geneaology of rulers carved into the Mace, Thorin could not anoint a rightful King after the death of the ruling Ironfist clan in the Wars. Thus, Thorin has ever since been ruled by a Warder King.

It is supposedly within the heart of every good Dwarf to want to see the return of the Mace and the ascension of the rightful king. An entire order of Questors has been founded around the search for it. However, in reality, some of the leaders of the largest clans do not wish for the Mace’s return. With no true king, the clans have much more power. Still, if the Mace ever were to be found, it would be certain that the majority of the Dwarven race would give their lives to recover it.

There are rumors that the Dark Elves were responsible for the theft of the Mace, attempting to spark a war between the allied Dwarves and Orcs. While a popular theory, there is no known proof of this. The Wyndham Players have created a play based on these legends.
